The Other Side of the Lens

Thursday, January 19th, 2012

As a photographer of people, I get let into homes to capture and share very intimate and exciting moments.  It’s not often that the “focus” is on me and my personal life but today I decided to share some of my life in the past 8 months.  I have been on maternity leave, experiencing motherhood since having my daughter on May 17th, 2011.  There are 4 months remaining until I am back to work and I am getting extremely excited for some really interesting portraits and weddings in 2012.

I can’t begin to explain how much my life has changed.  So I won’t.  But please enjoy the images…

July and August 2010 Weddings

Sunday, January 8th, 2012

When I think about this summer and the weddings, I am very pleased to have had wonderful couples, families, and beautiful sunny days.  July and August had many sunny days and along with the sun came the heat.  The whole Kirkman Photography team really worked a good sweat this year.  Is it just me, or does it get hotter and hotter each time?

Despite the sweltering temperatures, we met some lovely couples, experienced some seriously cool tribal dancing, and created some memories that I don’t think we’ll ever forget.  For me, this wedding season has been the best so far!  It might get hotter each year, but the photos keep getting better.

Baby James

Sunday, January 8th, 2012

I had the pleasure of photographing baby James this week.  At three months, he had lots of giggles for us.  My favourites are of the family together, lying down.  I always love to see the facial expressions that appear and see what I can capture out these sessions.

The Clarke Family

Saturday, January 7th, 2012

Labor Day usually symbolizes the end of summer and the beginning of a new school year and a new season.  For a lot of people, it means goodbye to hot summer days (and nights) and to vacation time!  Fall is my favourite season and also my favourite time for family portraits.  I began my Fall Portraits a little early with the Clarke Family on Labor Day weekend.  There was still still a hint of summer left without being sweltering, and the evening granted us with an outstanding sunset to finish up our shoot on the beautiful beach.  I couldn’t have asked for nicer weather, prettier scenery, or a more fabulous family to photograph!  This was the best way to end my summer…
